MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) or Product Safety Data Sheet (PSDS) is now called an SDS (Safety Data Sheet). The main difference between an MSDS and an SDS is the standardized formatting. All SDSs follow the GHS’s 16 section formatting, while MSDSs could come in many different formats depending on the organization. Beyond that, they aim to convey the same information regarding chemical hazards. Nowadays, ‘SDS' or ‘Safety Data Sheet’ are the most used terms.

The purpose of both MSDS and SDS documents remains unchanged, which is to list the information pertaining to occupational health and safety for the various uses of the substances and products.
